Russian Translator
and Owner of this Website

Hello! My name is Irina Lychak. I am an owner of this website and a professional Russian translator based in Kiev (Kyiv), Ukraine.

I spend most of my day helping organizations and companies sell their services and products successfully, tap into new markets and communicate with their partners and prospective buyers effectively across the language barrier. On the pages of this website, I share some of the insights I've gained from cooperating with highly skilled people working on the staff of these organizations and companies — people who turn to me because there is at least one skill they don't have. They can't translate professionally into Russian and Ukrainian. And they can’t harness the power of foreign languages for their own businesses without the help of a professional translator.

So that's where I come in. As a financial translator, I take their written materials in English and transform them into Russian and/or Ukrainian, which are my native languages.

I have been in the business of translation for quite a while, and that includes 8+ years of financial translation experience on the staff of a central bank (see a testimonial), interpreting during business trips to Western Europe and Canada, a year as an in-house translator with a local magazine (see a reference). Since 2002, I have been working as a full-time freelance translator. Today, my main customer is the World Bank. I have also done work for many translation agencies worldwide and for direct clients.

I was certified by the Ukrainian Translators Association (see a certificate) in English-Russian and English-Ukrainian language pairs. For 5 years, I was an Associate Member of the American Translators Association (one more certificate).

Though I speak mostly Russian in everyday life and users of translation services often contact me just as a Russian translator, I have two native languages - Russian and Ukrainian. Ukrainian translation accounts for 70% of my annual translation volume. Therefore, I would say that I am not only a Russian translator, but a Ukrainian translator as well.

I translate in the following language combinations:

My daily output is generally 1500-3500 words, depending on the text difficulty.

Since I am not a native speaker of the English language, I provide Russian to English and Ukrainian to English translations of "for-information" quality only. Translations in the other directions can be provided both "for information" and "for publication". To learn about the difference between these types of translations, please read my Needs assessment page.

A translation memory (based on the Wordfast translation memory tool) for translated documents can be created and provided upon the client's request.

Also, I am available for editing, proofreading, back translation, translation of subtitles, and brand name analysis.

Rates

Translation: USD 0.05 – USD 0.12 per source word
Proofreading/Editing: USD 20 – USD 30 per hour
Minimum charge: USD 20

The more straightforward the text for translation/editing/proofreading is, the lower the rate.
